Dick Moore Housing was formed in February of 1958 by Richard C. Moore Jr., after being introduced to the manufactured home business on a part time basis in New Orleans in 1956 & 1957. It started at 2378 Lamar, in Memphis, and continued there until 1975. During that time a second retail center was opened in West Memphis, Arkansas as a buy-out in 1959, from a man named Jack Naylor who was in the Recreational Vehicle (RV) rental business. His rental operation was transformed into into an RV Sales Center, adding mobile homes to the sales line. In 1970, that operation moved across the street to property that was purchased, and remained until 1979 when Poole Trailer Sales was acquired and the operation moved to 3104 East Broadway, where one retail center is presently located today.

The original lot at 2378 Lamar in Memphis ceased to sell manufactured homes in 1973, and became the RV Sales Center. The storage lot at 2830 Lamar began selling manufactured homes in 1966. The oil embargo of 1974 caused the company to cease the RV operation and concentrate entirely on its manufactured home sales and office rental business. The company had begun renting commercial units in 1961, in a small way it grew steadily and continues its commercial projects. The list of commercial customers includes: FEDERAL EXPRESS, ST. JUDE, AMERICAN AIRLINES, GENERAL ELECTRIC, NASA, CONTINENTAL CAN CORP., CHRYSLER CORP. AND SHELBY CO. SHERIFF'S DEPT.

The storage lot which was leased in 1966 was purchased in 1969. A small two story building was built in 1970, and was headquarters for 15 years. In May of 1981 property was purchased in Milling ton, TN. and this became corporate headquarters. The property located at 3000 Elvis Presley Boulevard wt 2165 Lath am St. in Memphis acquired in 1971 and remained a sales center, leasing center and service center in until 1992. In 1964 a large building was acquired at 2165 Latham St. in Memphis when Dick Moore Inc. entered into the manufacturing business. The company produced a well built line of homes, First American Coach. That business ceased operation in 1968 after losing a half million dollars.

Today there are approximately 17 employees in 2 Sales centers, including the sales staff, office personel, service department, trucking operations, rental operations and the insurance agency. This does not include the employees at Moore Communities, LLC. Dick Moore Inc. is a Tennessee based corporation, authorized to do business in Arkansas and Mississippi. The company sells insurance on over half of it's sales and has several hundred annual renewals in addition to the insurance on new sales. We service loans in 23 states and we are licensed to sell insurance in 6 states. During it's history, the Company has sold approximately 26,000 manufactured homes. We have one of the most complete record systems of any mobile home dealer in the United States. February the 8th, 2011 marks 53 years of manufacturing home sales. We pride ourselves on being the Nations oldest Manufactured Housing Dealership being operated by the principal originating owner on a daily basis, Richard C. Moore Jr. (Known to his close friends and associates as "Bucky").
