ACTEX Publications is a specialty publishing house, committed to making a meaningful contribution to quality educational literature and professional opportunities in the actuarial science and related risk management areas.
Our evolution as a company began in 1972 with Dick London and Geoff Crofts at Northeastern University in Boston, with the publication of study manuals created to assist actuarial students with their exam preparation. These manuals were popularly known as Northeastern Study Guides. The ACTEX name was adopted in 1980, as an acronym for "actuarial texts," when we ended our affiliation with Northeastern University.
The study manual series is a dynamic, continuous project, since the manuals must be regularly revised to be kept current. We endeavor to offer the most up to date study manuals and other educational tools aimed at assisting students in their preparation for the examinations of the Society of Actuaries, the Casualty Actuarial Society, and the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries. We also offer services including recorded seminars in several formats and online courses geared toward exam preparation and professional development.
In 1985 we published our first textbook, and began an active program of textbook development in addition to the established study manual series. Since our incorporation in 1986, we have continued to grow, and currently publish an extensive line of textbooks targeted toward current and aspiring actuaries. We currently offer textbooks designed for use in university courses, textbooks to assist students with their exam preparation and textbooks to assist actuaries with their continuing education in Mathematics, Finance, Insurance, Business, Risk Management and Actuarial Science.
