AADA formerly known as "Afro American Students Association" was formed in July 2014 to address specific needs of African students studying in the state of Minnesota and North Dakota. The activities of this group were later expanded to include the welfare of African students in the whole of America, and even internationally.
The formation and objectives of this group were inspired by constant challenges faced by African students in higher learning institutions, like lack of proper coordination of their welfare, immigration status and such behaviors from their peers and colleagues that made them feel inferior before other students.
This association has since expanded its activities and programs to incorporate general issues affecting Africa and its development, including human rights, democracy, pandemics like Ebola and HIV AIDS, youth empowerment, adult literacy, among others.
In so doing, the association has resolved to have its coverage beyond the state of Minnesota to other parts of the United States and even internationally.
