The congregation of the Belmont United Methodist Church had its beginning from the results of a survey done of Arbutus and Belmont communities of Johnstown by the Mission Boards of the former Evangelical and United Brethren Churches. Our church was the first mission church of the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Worship services were held in the parsonage from November 1951 until the first worship service and dedication of the first unit on Sunday, April 13, 1952. The congregation was organized on this date with a membership of 114 persons. The present sanctuary was completed and dedicated on Sunday, September 12, 1954, with a seating capacity of 300 persons. The education unit, which includes classrooms and a large fellowship hall, was dedicated on Sunday, March 7, 1971.
