Opportunity Works is fully committed to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities by promoting a culture of dignity and respect and ensuring individualized services that maximize the independence of the people we serve. We further resolve to eliminate the barriers affecting people with disabilities through community advocacy and education.
Opportunity Works was founded in 1974 by a group of Newburyport area residents who were concerned about the lack of support services available to individuals with disabilities and to their families. Opportunity Works is a private, not for profit Corporation.
Since its founding, Opportunity Works has grown dramatically both in the numbers of people served and in the scope of the programs provided. Today, approximately 122 individuals from throughout the Merrimack Valley region are enrolled in various support programs.
Opportunity Works is headquartered in a 24,000 square foot facility located in the Lord Timothy Dexter Industrial Park in Newburyport. Opened in 1987, this facility was significantly expanded in 2003 to accommodate growth and the special needs of the individuals served by the agency.
Opportunity Works is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who works with the Executive Director in the administration of the agency and in the planning and execution of its programs. Opportunity Works operates with a staff of approximately 39 professionals who bring to the agency a broad range of experience in working with developmentally disabled individuals.
