Hoffman Sharpening was founded by John Hoffman in 1961. In a garage with a couple machines. In February of 1962 he bought the first new machine for $239.00. And in 1963 John's son Dan worked part time while going to school. In 1965 they built a new 600 square foot building. With John and Dan the only employees and John's wife Edna doing the bookkeeping. When Dan left for the Army in 1966 for 2 years, John bought the company's first automatic machine. John's daughter's and future daughter in law Dianne worked with him part time for those 2 years. With other family members helping out through the 1970's.

In April of 1977 John and Dan formed a corporation, and with continued growth of the business they added 2 additions onto the original building. August of 1983 John and Edna retired and Dan and Dianne purchased the business. In 1989 their son Scott Hoffman started full time and in 1991 their daughter Christel Hoffman-Hughey started full time.

With the growth of the company they built a new 6,000 square foot building in the Elkhart Industrial Park, and in October of 2007 we added another 3,000 square foot additon.

With the 3rd generation of family and quality employee's, we have serviced Elkhart county for over 30 years.
