In 1999 Hometown Broadcasting LLC. was formed with the purchase of AM 1090 WISS in Berlin.
WISS has been broadcasting and serving Berlin, central Wisconsin, and the Fox Valley for over 40 years. Previously located on AM 1090 KHz, WISS had a format consisting of a mix of Classic Country and Standards, called "Cow Country."
In 2006 WISS seized an opportunity to improve its signal. By moving to AM 1100KHz, WISS was able to double their power and cover a larger area. After the move was made to AM 1100, WISS changed their format to the current "true country" format as "Big Red AM 1100." WISS's commitment remains the same to serve the community with local news, weather, sports and agri-business reports. In 2007 WISS found out they have the opprotunity to once again upgrade their signal to cover the entire Fox Valley area. In preperation of this change WISS has changed format to 50's-60's Oldies with an emphasis on news & information. WISS has also added 24/7 coverage by adding a new FM station, 97.3 W247AZ is where you can listen to WISS any time of the day.
September of 2008 brought back WISS's Classic Country format, WISS features a custom mix of Classic Country and compatible oldies using the sloan "Full Service Radio and the Legends, Big Red AM 1100 WISS."
The tradition of serving the area continues as Big Red AM1100 turns 40 years old. May 2011 marks the start of a News-Talk format on WISS. The tradition of strong local and state news and event coverage continues along with a line up on engaging talk personalities.
History of WAUH
In 2002 Hometown Broadcasting purchased the permit to construct a new FM station in Wautoma on 102.3MHz. After getting 102.3 WAUH on the air programming consisted of a re-broadcast of Cow Country AM 1090 until the new studios for WAUH were complete. In late 2002 the current Retro Variety format debuted on WAUH with the name "Retro Radio 102.3 the Bug." Summer of 2008 brought another tweak to WAUH, a 60's - 70's Oldies format as "102-3 the Bug, Everything Retro!"
