Mission Statement:
The Mission of "Images of the Motherland: Interactive Theatre" (IMIT) is to educate and expand public awareness and appreciation of West and North African Traditions through authentic presentations of drama, art, music, dance , and storytelling.
Description:
"Images of the Motherland: Interactive Theatre" made it's Delaware Valley area debut in 1997 and incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) Non Profit Organization in 1999. Our major milestones over our 14 year history include our original educational dramatic productions: "Tales of the Dogon", "The Legend of Kan-Kan Musa: Mansa of Mali (A Tale About the Equality of All Peoples), "Songhai" Anti-Gun/Anti-Violence Dramatic Production, "Mambugur (Grandfather) & Tales of the Dogon", "The Life & Times of Omar ibn Sayyid" (18th Century Historical Slave Reenactment) plus a traveling museum exhibit "Timbuktu African Artifacts Exhibit". Also a docu-film project "The Last Africans" and the touring dramatic educational production "The Living History Heritage Project" featuring 2 historical reenactments are: "The Life & Times of Omar ibn Sayyid" and "Abdul Rahman Ibrahima-The Prince Among Slaves"
New "Emancipation Proclamation Jubilees Celebration" is a "living history" touring educational enrichment dramatic work that involves the "best" national historical reenactments of Pres. Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Maj. Martin Delaney, Omar ibn Sayyid and 3rd USCT (PHL). Included are humanities scholars, lectures, multimedia, and museum exhibits.
