Joe Supor started "Supor Trucking" in 1960 with a 1948 Ford truck... Hauling oil in the winter and steel in the summer, kept him busy in the early years. As the steel hauling expanded, Joe Supor proportionally increased his operations, and in the late 1960s he had five trucks on the road. However, diversification was already very much in his mind, and in 1968 the Supor trucking company broadened its base to become a trucking and rigging company; crane service soon followed providing additional business. Responding to the requirements of the market, the company bought heavier trucks and trailers, and steadily gained a reputation for expertise and excellence that has stood it in good stead ever since. Repeat business from satisfied customers marks the rise and success of Supor, and provides the cornerstone for additional growth.
By the end of 1970s, Supor had moved its headquarters to a site on the banks of the Passaic River at Bergen Street in Harrison, built space for a corporate office, warehouse and maintenance shops. Diversification was still the name of the game as the initial trucking operation expanded into rigging, heavy hauling and warehousing. In 1977, the company name was changed to J. Supor & Son Trucking & Rigging Co., Inc., when Joe's son joined the firm.
Supor is recognized as a qualified contractor to deal with major disasters, and when the Three Mile Island accident occurred in 1979, Supor's response team delivered the special stainless steel tanks from their warehouse in Harrison to be used in the recovery operation at the Pennsylvania site.
Supor did a great deal of work at Newark International Airport and Giant Stadium in the early '80s. Another milestone was reached in 1982 when Supor purchased Harrison Warehousing Company acquiring 180,000 square feet of warehousing space. With this addition, Supor became unique in its ability to transport, store and redistribute industrial goods.
Throughout the '80s, Supor continued to supplement its fleet of cranes by adding two 50-ton and two 75-ton hydraulic cranes and a new line of tractors and lowboys.
In the '90s Supor acquired additional warehouse space and in particular a facility which is 350,000 square feet on 25 acres.
After forty years, J. Supor & Son now supplies trucking, crane, rigging and warehouse service on a nationwide basis. Its Harrison headquarters is close to all of New Jersey's major highways and is only minutes away from the Port of New York, Newark International Airport and Conrail. The Bergen Street yard and warehouse are served by a pier on the navigable Passaic River, and a railroad yard with Conrail tie-ins. As Joe Supor puts it, "We can furnish fast, efficient service for all land, sea and air terminals, regardless of the location and the load size." "We provide complete turnkey rigging service, whether it be a single piece of equipment or an entire plant."
Today, Supor's specialized fleet of equipment ranges from flat bed trailers to transporters capable of hauling up to 500 tons on one trailer. In addition, many types of cranes are available: truck mounted, crawler, hydraulic and lattice boom ranging in size from 5 to 500 tons. The rigging equipment includes a 500 ton Hydraulic Gantry System as well as one of the most complete collection of rigging gear in the United States.
Superior equipment is backed by a staff of engineers who are able to provide answers to any transportation or rigging problem. The company's drivers and operators are the most qualified and highly trained in the heavy industry.
Supor has expanded immensely throughout the years. The company that started out with a single truck almost 40 years ago now operates throughout the United States of America.
