Our family-owned companies are a combined commercial potato growing, packing and marketing business, located northwest of Malin, Oregon, near the California-Oregon border. Our goal is to supply our customers with premium chipping and frying potatoes at internationally competitive prices. The quality of our product is due to the dedication of the Walker Family to personally oversee every step of the production process, including planting, harvesting, storing, packaging and shipping of our potatoes.
Our companies are owned by the Walker Family. The senior partners, William (Bill) and John Walker, have been farming since 1973. Bill Walker is the manager of sales and financing operations and John Walker is senior manager for the production of the crops and mechanical operations. Bill's son, Weston, has worked for the companies in one form or another for the majority of their lives. Weston, an indispensable part of our crop production management team, is also our primary contact for international sales. Weston's contributions to the business were formalized two years ago when they joined Bill and John as formal partners of the farming operation.
Family participation does not end there. For over thirty years, Bill's wife, Jan Walker, has headed our accounting department as Chief Financial Officer and supervised our billing and exports. Bill and Jan's daughter, Tricia Hill, serves as corporate counsel, corporate secretary, is a member of our accounting department and one of four partners. As you can see, our operation is truly a family affair.
And it's a growing family affair at that. Our projection for the 2008 growing season was estimated at 1,300,000 hundredweight. (Approximately 59,000 metric tons) Our acreage, including outside growers, will reach 3000 acres of potatoes this year. Although a majority of our crops our under contract, if we have an excellent harvest we may have additional metric tons available for new customers for the 2008-2009 shipping season. Normally, contracts are negotiated in late February and March to allow us time to locate the varieties of seed which will best suit our customer's needs. However, if you're interested any additional potatoes we may have, please contact our potato sales department.
Farming is ingrained in our family and that dedication helps us focus on growth. Every year brings new challenges and opportunities. Gold Dust Inc. and Walker Brothers farm will continue to meet those challenges head on and seize opportunities for growth and providing the market with potatoes whenever possible.
