Linear Projects, Inc. (LPI) was founded in February 2005 by principal Clayton Doherty. LPI's first project was to serve as a subcontractor to Photo Science, Inc., a full-service geospatial solutions company then involved in assisting Kentucky Utilities / Louisville Gas and Electric with project mapping for the proposed Mill Creek-Hardin County 345 kV Transmission Line southwest of Louisville. Since about 11 miles of the project crossed Ft. Knox Military Reservation, LPI was asked to prepare an environmental assessment (EA) meeting the requirements of Department of the Army environmental policies. LPI managed the various environmental surveys needed to prepare an adequate EA and, together with KU/LG&E staff, met with federal and state agencies to identify and address concerns about the project. LPI's EA for the granting of the easement crossing Ft. Knox was approved with the signing of a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) in November 2006.
