Oyate Nipi Kte is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to supporting the recovery of Dakota traditional knowledge, including Dakota language, spirituality, ecology, oral tradition, and life ways; to developing initiatives for sustainable living based on a Dakota environmental ethic; to facilitating an understanding of the harmful effects of colonization; and, to empowering individuals and collective communities to more effectively resist colonization and strengthen Dakota nationhood.
Oyate Nipi Kte recognizes the interconnectedness between ancient Dakota ways of being and the health of our communities. Furthermore, we see a direct link between the loss of our culture we have experienced under colonial rule and many of the negative social conditions found in our communities today. Thus, we are committed to challenging the institutions and systems of colonialism that have harmed our communities, while also strengthening our nation through the recovery of traditional knowledge and practices.
