SMI Crankshaft LLC, Fostoria, Ohio was established on October 22, 2008 after Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. and Sumitomo Corporation acquired 100% of Norton Manufacturing’s assets. The acquired assets, and 200+ employees, have been producing crankshafts for over 20 years. Sumitomo’s intent is for SMI Crankshaft to continue machining crankshafts for the Automotive, Diesel, Oil & Gas, and Military markets long into the future.
SMI Crankshaft’s 205,000 square foot manufacturing facility is located in Fostoria, Ohio with easy access to major highways and railways. We work with forgings, castings, and billets to precision machine crankshafts up to eight feet in length using:

* CBN grinders
* MQL drills
* Lathes
* Polishing tools
