Thandar Aung, MD, is a neurologist in the Epilepsy Program and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at Barrow Neurological Institute. She is board certified in neurology with a subspecialty certification in epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Aung’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and seizure disorders. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, the American Epilepsy Society, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Aung earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine 1 in Yangon, Myanmar. She completed her adult neurology residency at Barrow Neurological Institute and an epilepsy fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Aung’s research focuses on congenital brain malformations and epilepsy; invasive stereoelectroencephalography in localization of epileptogenic zones and outcomes of epilepsy surgery; and pre-surgical epilepsy evaluation with magnetoencephalography (MEG), single-photon emission computed tomography (SISCOM-SPECT), positron emission tomography (PET), and post-processing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
