When Leslie Gray and Maria Flaherty met in 2006, they both knew it was a magic moment. Leslie had been eager to learn energy work such as Reiki for her own use and to teach others in the field of addiction - she just never found the right teacher. Maria, having taught Reiki for many years, had recurring dreams since the 1980's about teaching Reiki in a women's prison, but had no idea where to begin....or how... until she met Leslie. Something was about to begin.

After two years of research, paperwork and proposals, they were finally able to add Reiki Tools for Self-Management to the Changing Faces Intensive Outpatient substance abuse program at Northeast Pre-Release Center (a women's prison) in Cleveland, Ohio. Since 2007, over 400 women have taken Reiki training and given such enthusiastic reviews, two new programs have been added to make a more comprehensive healing arts and self-empowerment program for incarcerated women facing recovery from the debilitating effects of trauma and addiction. The new programs, Recovery in Motion, created by Connie Lawrence James, MSW, LSW, CET II of the Cleveland Psychodrama Institute, and "Easy Does it" Healthy Eating for Less, created by Rebecca Dingle, PhD, Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking instructor with Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, address healthy eating and addiction recovery.
